Migraine Cure?
Tuesday April 20, 2004
Yesterday I woke up with
a migraine which kept me in bed or in the bathroom vomiting until about
six p.m. when I decided to try drinking some Starbucks coffee which
seemed to do the trick once before. I couldn't believe how fast it
worked, within an hour I was feeling more myself and on the way back to
normal. This morning I set my alarm early so that I could get
laundry done before I started work at noon, but when I woke up I was so
cuddly and feeling so good in my bed (I have new mossy lavender colored
sheets) that I decided to forego the laundry and just get more sleep.
When I awoke an hour later, I was surprised to find that I started to
get pain over my left eye again. I showered and washed my face thinking
it had to be a joke to be getting another migraine because earlier when
I woke up I was feeling so good. Sure enough I was getting
sick and fast, so I drove over to get another Starbucks and called work
and cancelled my early afternoon appointments. Now it's been about
an hour and I'm still sipping on the coffee and I feel so much better.
I can't believe how fast this works for me. Could Starbucks coffee be the answer to
my migraines?
I go back to the doctor
in another week to have her look at my ear to flush it out and also to
discuss if I think Effexor is working for me. The only major
problem I do have with it is the sexual side affects although I have to
say in the last couple weeks it has gotten a little better. I'll
have to ask my doctor if the sexual side effects naturally subside over
a period of time. I noticed a significant amount of help in my
mood swings, not as many and I have stopped crying every day. So
in that sense yeah it's helped, however I still had some pretty bad days
this month, and I also cut myself once this month. I think
I am willing to try it for another month and see again how I feel.
I have a feeling that my doctor is going to ask me if I called the government
subsidized mental health department about getting into
counseling and if I started exorcizing again both things which she
encouraged me to do. The answer is No. I haven't done either.
This past Sunday I
bought quite a few new books and music. I found a really cool new
and used bookstore called Frugal Muse that also carries DVD's and CD's
as well. I discovered this fabulous bookstore when one of my
clients gave me a 20 dollar gift certificate for there as a tip.
I was really shocked to find such a great used bookstore in the suburbs,
basically you have to go into the city to find any bookstore that has
anything more beyond harlequin romance novels in the burbs. Damn
housewives and their romance novels. I didn't get a chance to
spend as much time there as I wanted because R was with me when I went
and he was really getting bored following me around. I plan to go
back alone soon. In less then a half hour in the store I found and
bought ....A fantastic hardcover Biography of Anais Nin by Deirdre
Bair. another book called Arrows of Longing - correspondence
between Anais Nin and Felix Pollak. A book on the care and
character of Rats. A really cute book called Cafe Fetish by Jiri
Sliva - a really cool book with lots of funny and unique cartoons about
coffee that I will eventually cut out and frame for my kitchen and On
the bus issue 14 - a literary magazine of poetry and short stories,
featuring Charles Bukowski. I also was really happy when I found a
Verve CD for 4 bucks! I swear to god, a walk in that bookstore was
like a walk in Eden.
