Altered Art
By Girl in a Box

Back in 1987 I bought an unfinished ceramic head at a place in Chicago called The Alley.  Back then it was your typical gothic/punk head shop.   Around the same time I bought a Nefertiti  Bust as well, which I also still own. By the way This was the beginning of me collecting heads.  Since then I have over 5 unusual heads.  This one had become my least favorite.  Back then I had painted black and white with bright red lips so I decided to give it a make over.  80's Head

Eye Bowl
2004

I love the shape of fish bowls so that was my next project.  This one no longer holds fish but lights up when I put a votive or tea light inside.  This one is also collaged using old magazines from work with gloss medium.  ..

    Paper Cut of the Heart
September 28,  2002

This slice;
A crack in muscle
A scratch on
the eye ball of love

Not as sad as cero sis of the liver
Not as quick as cancer
or as shocking as
a heart attack during
a game of canasta

 but thin and sharp
as an avocado leaf
and as sure as a leak
in the Hoover dam

  Mary's altered bedroom picture:

A girl at work received a beautifully framed print for Christmas, she loved the colors, but didn't love the Asian theme so she asked me if I would alter it.  I think it turned out quite well.  It's hard to tell what I did and what was the original picture.  Unfortunately there was a glare from the light above when I took the picture.
