Cherry
#88
Back when I was the cherry
and you pretended to be my pit.
buried deep, hidden from light.
I choked the first time
thinking you were seedless
Just another piece of edible
nothingness.
Fooled by your demeanor
you soured too soon
before I could salvage
bits and pieces of sticky
skin and its sweetness
Now, years later
I sit here and remember
what it tasted like
when we were both ripe
and how we begged for our skin
to be peeled back.
